Past Thursday Evening Demonstrations
and Saturday Workshops

Here is a collection of past demos and workshops held over the past few months

Before Christmas, Steffan Ebsworth gave a relatively small but appreciative group of members an instructive and entertaining demonstration of landscape painting using mixed media.

In the demonstration, paint was loosely applied to a simple sketched landscape before beach ephemera - dried moss, seaweed - and other objects - torn and scrunched paper and card, bits of plastic, etc. were glued to the prepared hardboard. Multiple layers of paint were then applied and melded by both hands with various implements, producing a roughly textured surface. Scratching, scouring, and loose drawing enhanced the painting. The semi-abstract artwork thus became expressive, experimental, gritty and tactile, reflecting, capturing and responding to ever-changing experiences captured in his sketchbook whilst out on the Welsh coast and in open spaces.

Steffan’s demonstration was not just a one-time event. He indicated that he would return to and re-work elements of the artwork, showing the ongoing and interactive nature of his artistic process. This approach engaged the audience during the demonstration and left them with a sense of anticipation for the final artwork.
